Garden Beds & Loaves of Bread

I've officially started my very first garden! I've never considered myself a green thumb kinda gal, but it's funny what living on a little piece of land out in the country will inspire you to do.

After measuring out our footprint, we covered the decided area in a ground covering and secured it with plastic stakes. My husband and my Dad worked on the initial heavy lifting together digging and securing the fence posts. When I started this project, I totally forgot about the threat of deer and rabbits to a Pacific Northwesterners garden, so the fence was a must-have although very much a financial afterthought. So I rolled it into a Mother's Day gift to make my argument more persuasive. Luckily...it worked! Once the posts were completed, thankfully we didn't run into any of our nearby water lines, two of the posts that would hold the garden gate were filled with concrete while the others were filled and compacted with dirt.

Pete and I rolled out and secured the fencing and made the gate. Thanks to this wonderful blog post: diy wood garden gate by Simply Sierra Rose and Chat GPT (for the final crossbar measurement), here is our final product:

There is still work to be done; the remaining 2x4's need to be placed and secured on the top and bottom of the fence and the rest of the black ground covering will be covered by more chips.
Meanwhile, back I'm the kitchen, I have been happily buzzing around most days with flour on my shirt and sourdough on my hands. In competition with my Breville Espresso machine, my Mockmill flour mill has been a life changer. While I've only been milling fresh Einkorn Berries, this week I bought my first bag (24lbs) of Hard White Wheat Berries. Have you ever smelled earthy goodness of fresh flour? And not to mention the way it falls through your hands, billowy and softer than any new born baby blanket.

Here is the result of my first loaf using the freshly milled White Wheat Berries:
Lastly, we made our monthly trek out to 3 Sisters Market on Whidbey Island to get our monthly grass fed / grass finished meat order.

My hyperemesis continues to persist but the stability of the past few weeks has helped strengthen me. I do have a praise report - I was able to avoid my weekly IV Fluid appointment! Thank you for your prayers!! Orange juice and water from a mason jar seemed easy to gulp down this week which kept me hydrated. I am very thankful.

If you have any prayer requests, gardening tips or just want to say hello, as always feel free to respond here.

Thankful for you! Have a blessed week.

Blessings,
Hannah
